THE MIRACLE OF FORGIVENESS

“My mother and stepmother hated each other so much.”

Ahmed’s father had two wives, and the women loathed one another. “[My stepmother] does not even like to talk to us,” Ahmed* said. But Ahmed is a follower of Jesus, and he began to pray for an opportunity to share the healing power of the gospel with his stepmother.

God answered his prayers in a unique way. Ahmed’s half-brother Kamal* came to visit and stayed with him for three days. Over the course of those three days, Ahmed told Kamal about Jesus, and eventually Kamal received Christ as his Lord and Savior. “We were lost in Islam,” Kamal told his brother. “But I see Christians have been forgiven by Christ, and as a result they forgive and love people.”

“We have to help our mothers love each other through Christ.”

The gospel quickly took root in Kamal’s heart, and he began to see his own family through the eyes of Christ. Though Ahmed was afraid to share the word of God with his stepmother, he knew that God would use Kamal’s transformation to bring healing to his family. “I will share with her,” promised Kamal. “We have to help our mothers love each other through Christ.”

Ahmed gave Kamal a projector system loaded with the JESUS Film and other gospel media in their language. Every night for a week, Kamal showed the JESUS Film to over a hundred people each night in the IDP** camp where his stepmother lives. After a week, Kamal’s stepmother asked him to call their other brother Abdo* so she could speak with them about everything she had seen.

“If you know all these things, why did you not come and tell us before?”

When they met with her, she asked them: “If you know all these things, why did you not come and tell us before?” She told Kamal and Abdo that she wanted to be a Christian. “What can I do for Jesus to accept me as his daughter?”

At that moment, everyone began to cry. Through tears, Abdo told her that all she needed to do was accept Jesus as her Lord and Savior, but she had already prayed to receive Him! So Abdo reassured her that Jesus died for her and has unimaginable love for her. He encouraged her to ask Him to help her in everything she is facing.

After a month, she came to visit Ahmed and his mother – the woman that she hated deeply. To everyone’s surprise, his stepmother began to ask forgiveness for the years of bitterness and hatred between them. They forgave one another and wept tears of healing together. Ahmed watched in shock as his mother and stepmother, once enemies, began to talk together about Jesus. “It was as if they were students in theological school, though neither of them went to school!” he remarked. Watching these women forgive each other, he knew that he had witnessed a miracle.
