Imagine that you run into someone who is Deaf and doesn’t speak an official sign language but you want to share the Gospel with them. What do you do? Do they have to learn a specific sign language before ever being told about Jesus?
In this episode of The Renew Show, we explore the radical frontier of Deaf missions globally, including the moving testimony of a Deaf Nepali man who was exposed to the gospel and accepted Christ, even with no formal sign language. And he was not the only one:
Donna was born in Jamaica and was selling shells on the beach the day Dan and Carol, from YWAM Deaf World, met her. She was born Deaf and didn’t have access to formal education. She never had the chance to go to school, which means she was never able to learn her local sign language.
You may be asking, “how was the missionary team able to share the Gospel with a Deaf person who did not have the opportunity to learn a sign language?”
Even with the language barrier—Jamaican Sign Language versus no formal sign language— a Deaf YWAM team was able to explain the Gospel and watch her gesture in response that she was accepting Christ.
