Program Overview
With over 400 sign languages spoken around the world and only one Bible translation available in American Sign Language, missionaries face a significant challenge when trying to share the Gospel with Deaf people who use different sign languages or, in some cases, those who have no access to a formal sign language at all. While some regions have access to a local sign language, many others do not, leaving millions of Deaf people without access to understand the message of Jesus.
The question then becomes: should these communities have to wait years for a Bible translation in their own local sign language, or even longer for the resources to become available to them?
The Rescue Project was created in response to this challenge. In collaboration with the Deaf community, Renew World Outreach gathered a team to develop innovative visual content tailored for Deaf people, especially those who have not yet learned a formal sign language. The project uses Visual Vernacular, an artistic approach combining mime, gestures, expressions, and acting to creatively convey the Gospel message.
